The Warped Tour 2012 was the 18th edition of the Warped Tour music festival , which took place between June 16, 2012 and August 5, 2012 in North America . 130 artists appeared on the festival tour, which included 41 concerts. Some of these groups played on the entire tour, while some were only seen at selected concerts on the tour.

In March 2012 it was also announced that the tour would make a stop in Europe for the first time in 14 years . This concert with 28 performing artists only took place in the UK . The last time the Warped Tour was in Europe was in 1999. In 2013 the event was expanded further.

Tour progress

On October 11, 2011, the tour dates for the 18th edition of the Warped Tour were announced. The concert tour started on June 16, 2012 in Salt Lake City , Utah and ended on August 5, 2012 in Portland , Oregon . The exact event centers were still unknown at the time. On March 16, 2012, the exact locations of the tour were announced. A pre-party took place on March 29, 2012 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles .

The participating artists were confirmed in several “waves of announcement”. All Time Low , The Used , New Found Glory , Miss May I , Taking Back Sunday , Of Mice & Men , Anti-Flag , Falling in Reverse , Four Year Strong , Pierce the Veil , Yellowcard , We the Kings and played on the main stage Streetlight Manifesto .

According to the US music magazine Billboard , the Warped Tour landed at number 3 of the most sold tickets in California . The four concerts on the tour in the US state sold a total of 63,385 tickets, corresponding to sales of approximately USD 2.2 million . One concert was therefore sold out. Only Roger Waters and Kenny Chesney (with Tim McGraw ) were able to sell more tickets and make a higher profit.

On July 15, 2012, a festival- goer died in Toronto during a performance by the band Chelsea Grin . Dehydration and heat stroke were cited as possible causes of death .

A Warped Tour show in London , United Kingdom has also been announced for November. It was the first appearance of the tour in Europe after 13 years. The last concert tour was in Europe in 1996 and 1999. In 1999 this was the case at the Reading and Leeds Festival . The event was completely sold out after a few months. About 10,000 visitors were expected at the Alexandra Palace . Between November 4th and 9th, six concerts under the name Road to Warped Tour UK with Less Than Jake , New Found Glory , The Story So Far and Man Overboard took place in Manchester , Nottingham , Leeds , Glasgow , Norwich and Cardiff .

Warped Tour Roadies and Compilation

On December 3, 2012, shortly after the end of the European Warped Tour in London , it was announced that a documentary about the Warped Tour was being shot. This is called Warped Tour Roadies and shows, among other things, the organization behind the scenes of the concert tour. The first season consists of ten episodes and was only broadcast in North America on Fuse TV .

In addition, a compilation CD with individual pieces from several participants in this year's Warped Tour was released. This was available, among other things, as a supplement to the Alternative Press for buyers of an annual subscription.

reception

According to Examiner's Kathleen Creighton , the 2012 Warped Tour made it to Hartford , Connecticut for the fourth year in a row . According to the critic, the organization (for her personally) was different than in previous years and a bit confusing: There were two main stages, which were laid out in such a way that the audience always missed parts of an appearance. The artists on the acoustic stage therefore had problems being heard, since the stage was located between one of the main stages, the KIA Rio and the Monster Energy stage . All in all, the festival day was still positive.

Marry Bonney wrote in her music blog LA Music Blog that the Warped Tour showcases the best of the national punk scene and that Kevin Lyman (the tour's founder and organizer) will have a harder time outperforming the success of the past few years. According to the critic, at least 16,000 visitors were counted in Pomona , California . Richard Noel of the Phoenix New Times , however, was not very enthusiastic about the events center in Glendale near Phoenix , Arizona , the Camelbank Ranch Baseball Stadium . He is of the opinion that the location is not suitable and poorly equipped to accommodate such a large crowd. He also described the outside temperatures there as dangerous; a tunnel that formed the connection between the stages had been overcrowded due to the heat.

Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote that the Warped Tour in the early years revolved around the punk scene with its sub-genres Ska and Hardcore Punk , but also around Thrash Metal . In the meantime, hip-hop artists can also be found on the billing. The critic praised the performance of the band Sleeping with Sirens , which took part in the Warped Tour for the first time in 2012 and played directly on one of the two main stages. Brandon Marshall of Mountain Weekly News commended the ability to get bottled water all day free of charge. This was not possible before. There was also the possibility to buy water at the local locations. The tour worked with other locations this year.
