Architects is a metalcore - band from Brighton , England , founded in 2004. The band had many names change; their first band name was "Inharmonic", which they then changed to "Counting the Days". A few years later they finally called themselves “Architects”.

history

Founded in 2004, the band began recording their first demo in 2005 . After the band drew the attention of Distort Entertainment , the band released their debut album Nightmares in 2006 , whose members were only 17 years old on average at the time.

In 2007 the second album Ruin was released , on which the new singer Sam Carter could be heard for the first time after singer Matt Johnson left the band for personal reasons in January of the same year. The album was a huge hit and the band played outside of the UK for the first time with As I Lay Dying , SikTh , Gallows and The Holly Springs Disaster . They also took part in the download festival .

In 2008, Ruin was re-released by Century Media Records with bonus tracks. Architects also recorded a split EP with Dead Swans , which was released under Thirty Days of Night Records . In the same year, the band toured the United States with bands such as Suicide Silence , Emmure , Beneath the Massacre and The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza . In addition, a European Altamonte Never Say Die! -Tour with Whitechapel , Protest the Hero , Carnifex , Parkway Drive , Unearth and Despised Icon .

In late January 2009, the third studio album Hollow Crown was released under Century Media Records . As the title of the album suggested, the lyrics on the album dealt with topics such as arrogance and obsession. Then they played at the Vainstream Rockfest , as well as at other festivals, such as the With Full Force . On September 24, 2010, the band's first download single was released under the name Day In Day Out .

For January 21, 2011 the band announced their fourth album The Here and Now . A month later, the band confirmed that bassist Alex Dean had left the band because of family commitments.

On July 3, 2011, the band announced on their Facebook page that former bassist Alex "Ali Dino" Dean was returning to the band.

In spring 2012 Architects (and Touché Amoré ) supported the US band Rise Against on their European tour as an opening act.

On April 16, 2012, the band announced on their Facebook page that guitarist Tim Hillier-Brook would leave the band and give his last appearance with Architects at the Groezrock Festival. He was replaced on the same day by Sylosi's guitarist Josh Middleton, who supported the band as the second guitarist at the following concerts.

In October 2013 Architects left their previous label Century Media Records and switched to Epitaph Records . Since February 2015 Adam Christianson, who has played the rhythm guitar at concerts since 2014, has been a full member of the band.

Guitarist, songwriter and founder Tom Searle died on August 20, 2016 at the age of 28 after three years of fighting as a result of his cancer.

On September 7th, 2017 it was announced that Josh Middleton, who previously played guitar at live concerts, had become a full member of the band. In addition, Doomsday was the first new single since Tom Searle's death. Dan Searle announced on Twitter that Tom Searle could no longer complete the song and that the band wrote it to the end.

On September 12, 2018 the band announced their eighth studio album Holy Hell for November 9, 2018 and also released the second single of the upcoming album, Hereafter .

style

Architects play technical, but at the same time atmospheric metalcore with influences from post-hardcore and mathcore . In addition to guttural vocals , the band also uses clear vocals.

The texts are often shaped by social criticism. Deathwish and From the Wilderness deal with environmental problems. A Match Made in Heaven and Downfall address politics. Other songs, on the other hand, deal with the perceived as destructive sides of human nature (e.g. Truth, Be Told ).

Commitment to the environment

All members of the band are vegan . Together with the animal rights organization PETA , they have designed a poster in which they call for them to do the same in this regard. Singer Sam Carter is an ambassador for the marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd .
