Unearth is a metalcore band from Winthrop, Massachusetts , formed in 1998 . A special feature of this band is that they combine the typical American metalcore with melodic death metal . The producer of their albums, with the exception of album III: In the Eyes of Fire , was Adam Dutkiewicz , the lead guitarist of Killswitch Engage .

history

Unearth was founded in 1998. In May 1999, the small label Endless Fight Records released the EP Above the Fall of Men , which was only produced in a very small edition and later achieved a high collector's value. The band played concerts in the USA, Canada and, for the first time, in Europe . At the turn of the millennium, Unearth signed with Eulogy Recordings . In January 2001 the debut album The Stings of Conscience was released. For the first time, it made it into the Billboard charts . Unearth shared the concert stage with bands like Hatebreed , Shadows Fall , Killswitch Engage and Chimaira .

In mid-September 2002 the EP Endless was released . After the Headbanger's Ball Tour in 2003 with Hatebreed , Damageplan and Drowning Pool , the band signed a worldwide contract with Metal Blade. A year later Unearth played on the Ozzfest tour.

In August 2004 the second album The Oncoming Storm was released . The album was produced by Adam Dutkiewicz . After a headlining tour through the USA with The Black Dahlia Murder , Unearth took part in the Eastpak Resistance Tour through Europe in autumn 2004 and was accompanied by Sick of It All , among others . During the promo tour for The Oncoming Storm , the performance was filmed on Long Island in July and released on the mini-DVD Unearth .

In March 2005, Alveran Records reissued the debut album The Stings of Conscience . Unearth toured Europe with Lamb of God , Every Time I Die and Caliban in June . In November Alveran Records released the compilation Our Days of Eulogy , on which the two EPs and five live tracks from Stings of Conscience can be heard.

In mid-2005 Unearth began recording III: In the Eyes of Fire . In the Eyes of Fire was released on Metal Blade Records in August 2006. A special digipack edition was also released with a bonus DVD containing 4 live videos recorded on the Sounds of the Underground tour and a making-of of the new album.

On October 14th, 2008 the fourth studio album The March , which was again produced by Adam Dutkiewicz, was released.

The fifth studio album entitled "Darkness in the Light" was released on July 5, 2011 via Metal Blade Records.

In 2012 Unearth had another appearance at Wacken Open Air after 2008.

style

Unearth play classic metalcore . Until the album The Oncoming Storm, the influence of Melodic Death Metal predominated , later on Thrash Metal is the focus. However, they experiment little vocal, only the standard shouting by Trevor Phipps is used and clear vocal passages, sung by rhythm guitarist Ken Susi, are used, with a few exceptions ( Endless , Black Hearts Now Reign and Lie to Purify , Watch It Burn , Shadowns In The Light , Last Wish and The Fallen ).

In an interview with Metal Hammer , Unearth mentioned that bands like Pantera , Slayer , In Flames and Metallica have the biggest influence on their style of music.
