Shadows Fall are a metal band from Boston ( USA ). Their music is influenced by both classic American Thrash Metal (e.g. Metallica , Anthrax , Slayer ) and Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal (e.g. In Flames , Dark Tranquility , At the Gates ).

history

The band was formed in 1995. In 1997, the debut album Somber Eyes to the Sky was released on Lifeless Records, the record company of guitarist Matt Bachand. With the album, the band was able to achieve respectable success in their home state of Massachusetts and got a recording contract with Century Media .

In 2000, Of One Blood, the second studio album was released. With Brian Fair the band has signed a new singer. They went on a world tour with various artists such as the Misfits , King Diamond and In Flames .

In September 2002 the third album The Art of Balance was released. Driven by a new rhythm section around the new drummer Jason Bittner found their way to set the perfect balance between melody and heaviness. The album was the first in Century Media history to sell more than 100,000 copies in the United States. With The Art of Balance , Shadows Fall also became known in Europe. The Metal Hammer magazine named The Art of Balance album of the month.

The following year, Shadows Fall were invited to the world-famous Ozzfest tour. Prestigious tours with Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God followed .

The band's final breakthrough came with their fourth album The War Within , which was released in September 2004. The album was produced by "Zeuss", who has already worked for Hatebreed and Blood Has Been Shed . To date, more than 300,000 copies have been sold in the United States.

In November 2005 the first DVD was released with the title The Art of Touring . The DVD contains a live concert, backstage recordings and six video clips. In May 2006, Fallout from the War is another compilation with six songs that were created during the recording for The War Within , new recordings of B-sides and three cover versions. Her song The Light That Blinds was added to the Playstation 2 game Guitar Hero 2 by Activision in 2006 to play along with.

Shadows Fall have since left Century Media. In North America they are now under contract with Atlantic Records , while Roadrunner Records is responsible for the rest of the world . The new album Threads of Life was released in March 2007.

In April 2008 the Century Media debut "Of One Blood" was released in a "remastered" version. The sound-technical improvements can be seen on the band's Myspace page. There it was also announced that Shadows Fall will release a new album on September 17, 2009. In 2012 the band released their seventh studio album on the Razor & Tie Records label.

At the end of August 2014, the band announced on Facebook that they would be taking a musical break after their ongoing US tour.
