Whitechapel is a US-based Metal - band from Knoxville, Tennessee .

history

Singer Phil Bozeman

The band was formed in February 2006 by Phil Bozeman, Brandon Cagle and Ben Savage. Guitarist Alex Wade, bassist Gabe Crisp and drummer Derek Martin soon joined them and the first demos were recorded in March 2006 .

2007 Whitechapel signed record deals with the labels Siege of Amida Records in Great Britain and Candlelight Records in North America , where the debut album The Somatic Defilement (with Kevin Lane as drummer) was released in June of the same year .

Since October 2007 the band has been under contract with Metal Blade Records . There the second studio album This Is Exile was released in July 2008 , of which 5900 copies were sold in the first week. It reached number 118 on the Billboard Top 200 . Music videos were made for This Is Exile , Eternal Refuge and Possession .

In May 2008 Whitechapel were on the Summer Slaughter tour and in August 2008 they started with Impending Doom , A Different Breed of Killer and Through the Eyes of the Dead their first tour as headliners . They were also on the Never Say Die! Tour 2008 with Unearth and Parkway Drive .

Her third album, A New Era of Corruption , was released on June 8, 2010. A first song on the album, The Darkest Day of Man , was released on April 12, 2010 on her Myspace page. The band played at the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festivals with many other bands such as Slayer and Rammstein . In autumn 2010 they were on tour in Europe as a support with Job for a Cowboy .

On August 9, 2017, Ben Harclerode announced his departure from the band via Twitter.

Band name

The name is derived from the Whitechapel district of London . In this neighborhood, Jack the Ripper brutally killed and mutilated all but one of his victims. They dedicated their first album, The Somatic Defilement , entirely to the serial killer.

Music genre

Whitechapel played a form of Deathcore strongly influenced by Deathgrind on the first two albums , so it was difficult to differentiate between these two genres. Since the album A New Era of Corruption (2010), the band moved away from deathcore and moved more towards modern death metal . In the meantime their music can be ascribed to deathcore again, which is confirmed by the album The Valley (2019).
