Through the Eyes of the Dead is an American death metal / deathcore band from Florence , South Carolina .

history

After Through the Eyes of the Dead was founded in 2003 by guitarist Justin Longshore, the band recorded the first EP The Scars of Ages in 2004 .

In 2005 their first album Bloodlust was released via Prosthetic Records , in the same year guitarist Richard Turbeville, drummer Dayton Cantley and bassist Jeff Springs left the band.

With the new members they played on the Sounds of the Underground tour in 2006, which is a festival-like tour like the Ozzfest .

In 2007 singer Anthony Gunnells and guitarist Chris Anderson left the band, the latter was replaced by Richard Turbeville, who was a member until 2005. The reason for Gunnells' departure was allegedly his excessive alcohol consumption.

In August 2007 the second album was released with Malice ; A music video was shot for the song "Failure in the Flesh". The release of the album was followed by a tour of America with bands like Whitechapel and Impending Doom . In early 2008, drummer Josh Kulick left the band.

On February 2, 2010, their third album Skepticism was released.

style

Through the Eyes of the Dead played Metalcore influenced by Death Metal until 2005, but there are hardly any Metalcore or Hardcore influences to be heard on the album Malice and the music of the band on this album is more likely to be assigned to pure Death Metal. With the studio album Skepticism released in 2010, however, the band more or less returned to the old style of music, whereby a clear differentiation between Death Metal and Deathcore turns out to be difficult (see also article Deathcore ). The band themselves describe their music on their MySpace page as a mix of death metal and hardcore.

Influences are groups like Morbid Angel , Cannibal Corpse and At the Gates . Apparently the band name comes from the song Staring Through the Eyes of the Dead by Cannibal Corpse.
