Gallows is an English hardcore punk band from Watford , England .

history

Her debut album Orchestra of Wolves , which was released on September 26, 2006, was surprisingly successful in both England and the USA. The album was very well received by fans and critics and the band won the Kerrang in 2007 ! Award for the best British newcomer. In the Belly of a Shark , the first single from Orchestra of Wolves appeared on the Playstation game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock .

On May 2, 2009, the album Gray Britain was released. Then the band completed several tours, where they played on the complete Vans Warped Tour 2009, played some festivals in Europe.

In January 2011, singer Frank Carter announced that the band would record a third album and that the band would withdraw for some time. In the summer of 2011, Gallows played a few festival and club shows. Even there, Frank Carter wore a T-shirt from his side project "Pure Love", which gave its first concert on January 14, 2012.

On July 9, 2011, singer Frank Carter announced his exit from the band. The reasons given were musical differences in the recordings for the new album. In the course of long guesswork about Frank Carter's successor, many names came up. The hottest contenders were Tom Lacey, singer of the now defunct band The Ghost of a Thousand , George Noble, ex-singer of the English hardcore band Your Demise and Franks and Steph's brother Richard, who had already made a name for himself in England with the band Blackhole would have. Wade MacNeil, previously guitarist and backing vocalist for Alexisonfire , was introduced as the band's new vocalist on August 9, 2011. Shortly thereafter, True Colors appeared on Youtube as a foretaste of the announced EP Death is Birth and was offered for free download. In early December 2011, the EP Death is Birth was released worldwide on iTunes.

On September 10th, Gallows released their third studio album, "Gallows". The album received very good reviews and cemented Wade MacNeill's position as a front man with the fans.

In February 2013, the band announced on their Facebook page that Steph Carter is leaving the band and, like in the early days, they will only tour four people. The fourth studio album Desolation Sounds , released in 2015, is enriched with influences from post-punk compared to its predecessors . Since the tours to Desolation Sound , Gallows have been largely inactive, but the band members are musically involved in other projects (MacNeil, for example, with the reunion of Alexisonfire).

style

On the one hand, the band plays a typical style based on American old-school hardcore punk , with comparisons with Minor Threat , Black Flag or Slapshot .

Furthermore, there are numerous influences from emo and screamo bands in the sound of the band . What is noticeable here is the vocals, which often shouted emotionally brutally, but which also know quieter, somewhat perverted parts. Furthermore, as is usual with emotional hardcore, many song structures are set up in such a way that quieter parts and scruffy guitars alternate with more explosive, chaotic parts. The band itself names some well-known emo / screamo bands like Envy , Drive Like Jehu , pg. 99 , Swing Kids or Orchid as influencers.
