Alexisonfire is a Canadian post-hardcore band from St. Catharines , Ontario .
Surname
The band name pays homage to the erotic actress and prostitute Alexis Fire . After learning that the band was named after their website, they threatened to sue Alexisonfire . Since she had never had the name protected, however, she had to give up. The name is pronounced as "Alexis on Fire".
history
The five friends came together in 2001 through the separation of three bands. The band released the EP Math Sheet Demos in 2002 , on the packaging of which the math homework of former drummer Jesse Ingelevics was shown.
The debut album , the cover of which is based on the lyrics to A Dagger Through the Heart of St. Angeles , was released that same year. The band became known through the support of Much Music . The following album, Watch Out! , the cover of which was inspired by the song That Girl Possessed , was released in 2004.
In early 2005 they toured together with Rise Against through Europe and Australia and gave numerous sold-out concerts. In October 2005 the band started their first headlining tour through Europe together with the British bands The Blood Roses and Johnny Truant . In Glasgow , all band members of these bands had the word Yeti tattooed on themselves . In an episode of The New Music that aired on Much Music, George Pettit and Dallas Green stated that the idea for their "Yeti" tattoo came from The Firm .
The band's third album is called Crisis and was released on August 22, 2006. This was followed by various tours around the world, including on the Vans Warped Tour in the USA and internationally as support for Billy Talent and Anti-Flag .
On June 23, 2009, the fourth album, Old Crows / Young Cardinals, was released . On October 29, 2010 a 4-song EP called Dog's Blood was released on Roadrunner Records .
The band announced in February 2011 that they wanted to release their fifth studio album and already wrote new songs for it. According to their own statement, the album should sound heavier and stronger than anything they have released so far. It gets "so intense that (the EP) Dog's Blood looks like a Ska record". On August 5th, however, the band announced that they wanted to split up. As a reason it says in a statement that both guitarist / singer Dallas Green and guitarist Wade McNeil will leave the band.
On December 4th 2012 the band released one last EP with 6 acoustic interpretations of songs from their previous albums. Only Wade McNeil and Dallas Green were involved here, who took over both the guitars and the entire vocals.
On March 9, 2015, the band announced their reunion via their social channels, including a newly created Instagram account, which will be accompanied by a festival tour in the same year.
At the beginning of 2019, the group released the two singles "Familiar Drugs" and "Complicit". These were the first new songs after almost 10 years of creative hiatus.
style
The texts range from relationship problems to go-karting . Starting with the album Crisis , more serious political and humane issues were taken up. George Pettit's intense screams, the melancholy vocal melodies of Dallas Green and Wade McNeil's raw vocals are characteristic.
Trivia
Fans who had an Alexisonfire tattoo received free entry to a concert on the respective tour on request all over the world.
