Sylosis is an English metal band from Reading, founded in 2000 .
history
The band was founded in 2000 by guitarist Josh Middleton. Together with some friends from his school, the musicians started jamming . After a few line-up changes, Sylosis played numerous concerts. In 2006 the band signed a contract with In at the Deep End Records , which released the EP Casting the Shadows that same year . A year later followed the second EP The Supreme Oppressor . The band sent a demo to various major record companies. While touring England , Sylosis were contacted and signed by Nuclear Blast . On October 24th, 2008, their debut album Conclusion of an Age was released . A year later played Sylosis on the festival Download Festival and Summer Breeze and toured in early 2010 as the opening act of Fear Factory by the United Kingdom.
In May 2010 the band separated from singer Jamie Graham because of different musical and personal ideas. Guitarist Josh Middleton then took over the vocals. This was followed by appearances at the Graspop Metal Meeting , Bloodstock Open Air and Traffic Jam Open Air festivals . On March 11, 2011, the second album was released with the title Edge of the Earth . At the 2011 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards , Sylosis were nominated in the Breakthrough category, but the award went to Sabaton . In the summer of 2011 Sylosis played at the Brutal Assault and Summer Breeze festivals . A year later she performed at the Wacken Open Air and the Download Festival.
On October 5, 2012, the band released their third album Monolith . A year later the band performed at the Soundwave Festival , Brutal Assault and Graspop Metal Meeting festivals . In September 2013, Sylosis were involved in a serious accident while on tour. The musicians had to be treated in a hospital and therefore had to cancel a planned North American tour with Trivium , DevilDriver and After the Burial . After a long break, the band released their fourth studio album, Dormant Heart , on January 12, 2015 , which reached number 63 on the British album charts . In summer 2015 the band played at the festivals With Full Force , Hellfest , FortaRock Festival , Download-Festival and Graspop Metal Meeting. The band announced their fifth studio album, Cycle of Suffering, on February 7, 2020 .
style
The band named Metallica , Sepultura , Forbidden and Death as main influences . In the texts from Conclusion of an Age , topics such as religion , war and environmental pollution are discussed. In Edge of the Earth , for example, the lyrics describe a man's complete fictional isolation from society or the transience of life. The lyrics are partly shaped by personal experiences, says Josh Middleton.
While the first album is still a mixture of Metalcore and Thrash Metal (for example it was more often used plain vocals), the second work contains elements of Melodic Death Metal that are combined with Thrash Metal - harmonic melodies, lead guitar solos and growl vocals dominate, the clear vocals only come into play occasionally. The third album, Monolith , is about a fictional story in which a man tries to save his lover from the underworld. The idea, as Josh Middelton describes, comes from a Greek myth.
