After the Burial is a technical death metal band from Minnesota , USA , founded in 2004 and associated with the Djent movement.

history

After the Burial was founded in Twin Cities in 2004 .

After the band had found a permanent drummer and singer after a lot of changes and recorded the first demo, they gained stage experience for the first time. Because of the novel and unusual style of music, they quickly signed a record deal with Sumerian Records . In 2006 their first album Forging a Future Self appeared on Sumerian Records, which was characterized by the progressive characteristics of Technical Death Metal .

In July 2008 their second album Rareform was released , which contains less electronic elements. Shortly thereafter, singer Grant Luoma left the band and was replaced by Anthony Notarmaso. As a result, a year after the release, Rareform appeared in a revised version, for which the songs were completely re-recorded.

In October 2010, the band toured together with The Agonist and Maroon through Europe . They also confirmed their participation in the "December Decimation" tour, which took the band across North America in December of the same year alongside groups such as Winds of Plague and Carnifex . In November 2010 the band released their third album In Dreams .

Early after this release, the band began again to write more songs, so that in 2012 the later single A Wolf Amongst Ravens could be heard on shows of the band.

After the band announced a new album in September on various shows at the beginning of 2013, they released the EP This Life Is All We Have on April 30, 2013, and thus before any further details were announced , on the three songs of their debut - Long-time players ( A Steady Decline , Fingers Like Daggers and Redeeming The Wretched ) have been re-recorded and refined. The release was criticized by observers and was seen as a means to keep fans of the band "happy" until the new album was unveiled. Other points of criticism were the incompleteness of the re-publication in relation to the original work from 2006, the correspondingly short playing time of around ten minutes, and the missing digital booklet.

In December 2013, the fourth studio album Wolves Within and the extension of the contract with Sumerian Records (North America) followed.

Justin Lowe was found dead on July 21, 2015, not far from the Saint Croix River in Somerset . The guitarist has been missing since July 18.

style

The two guitarists Justin Lowe and Trent Hafdahl play eight-string electric guitars , which give the music of After the Burial a deep dark tone and differentiate it from other bands. The band also plays a very melodic and technical version of Death Metal, Technical Death Metal . Because of its musical rhythm, which plays a major role in this variant, it is often compared to the band Meshuggah .
