Band history

Maroon was founded in 1998 in Nordhausen, northern Thuringia. The first demo appeared in 1999 with The Initiate . In 2000, the first album called Captive in the Room of the Conspirator was recorded at the Headquarters Studion in Berlin and released by Kerosene Recordings . At the same time, Maroon played several concerts in Europe, including as the opening act for Earth Crisis and Morning Again . In 2001 split CDs with Absidia and Self Conquest were released, while the band went on a European tour again and played as the opening act for Caliban and Heaven Shall Burn , among others .

In 2001 Maroon recorded the album Antagonist at the Rape of Harmonies Studios . It became the best-selling album for Catalyst Records . Further concerts in Europe and some line-up changes followed.

In 2003, Maroon signed a contract with the Alveran Records label , which re-released Antagonist and which also released its follow-up Endorsed by Hate . Maroon also played at the Pressure Festival organized by Alveran Records and also at With Full Force . Since 2004 they have had a record deal with Century Media , which in turn re-released Endorsed by Hate on Abacus Recordings , especially for the USA .

In 2006 the album When Worlds Collide was released by Century Media. At the end of May 2007 they appeared as the opening act for the nu-metal band Korn in Hamburg and played at the Wacken Open Air in August 2007 . On October 19, 2007, the album The Cold Heart of the Sun was released . also in 2007 she appeared with Himsa as the opening act for As I Lay Dying . The song Wake Up In Hell appeared on the soundtrack to the film Zombie Strippers , which was released in the same year . In 2009, on April 17th to be more precise, their fifth studio album, entitled Order , was released.

In April 2011, the band announced on their Facebook profile that Sebastian Rieche and Nick Wachsmuth had left the band and this was followed by a longer break or break for the band. On December 9th, 2012 there was finally news from the Facebook page Maroon: The band would continue with two new band members and the first appearance after 2 years should take place at the With Full Force Festival in Germany. In early 2013, Maroon announced further details about the new band members: Steven "Ivan" was introduced as the new guitarist and Benny as the new drummer.

On December 4, 2013, the band announced on their Facebook page that they were after the "Some Goodbyes are Farewells Tour 2014" , which u. a. Concerts in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Japan, Russia, China, Ukraine and Belarus will resolve. It was also announced that Andre and Tom-Eric will remain musically active in a new band.

style

With a few exceptions, Maroon's texts deal with animal rights and environmental protection , veganism and straight edge in general. Most of their musical role models and the bands they play with come from the straight-edge area. On the album Antagonist , a cover of the piece Declaration, which is quite well known in the straight edge scene , was released by Canon . Endorsed by Hate disappointed many fans because it didn't deal with the straight-edge typical topics. The band also changed their internet address from http://www.xmaroonx.com to http://www.maroonhate.com . The removal of the two xs , which are reminiscent of the x as a distinguishing mark of the straight-edge scene, caused further resentment. The follow-up album When Worlds Collide is seen as a clear reaction from the band to the criticism, as the lyrics are again mainly about "typical" topics. The first song 24 Hour Hate even contains some quotes from the history of the Straight Edge: "Burn it down" is the name of a band from the hardline scene of the 1990s, "destroy the machines" is the name of a CD by Earth Crisis as well as " firestorm ”, and the chorus“ hands off the animals ”comes from the song Cultured Sadism by the band Raid , which, together with Vegan Reich, is one of the very first vegan straight-edge bands.
