Pressure Festival
The Pressure Festival is a German hardcore and metalcore festival. It is considered one of the most important European festivals on the hardcore scene.
General
It usually takes place at the end of June parallel to or shortly after the Hurricane and Southside festivals in the Gysenberghalle in Herne . With a hall capacity of 5000 people, the festival attracts up to 10,000 visitors annually
Since the Pressure Festival is organized by the Alveran Records label , which is one of the most important European hardcore and metalcore labels, many of the most important bands from these genres have already played at the Pressure Festival. Many American bands play their first concert in Europe at the Pressure Festival, for example Casey Jones and The Warriors . In addition to the concerts, there are stalls, information stands from animal rights organizations and vegan food .
history
The Pressure Festival was initiated by the Alveran Records label in 2003 as a counterpart to the US Hellfest . Already at the first Pressure Festival, which took place in the Amalie Funbox in Essen from June 27th to 29th, 2003 , very well-known metalcore and melodic death metal bands played with Caliban , Dark Tranquility and Hatebreed .
On November 1st, 2003 a one-day winter special of the Pressure Festival took place in the Matrix in Bochum . It played Blood for Blood , Born from Pain , Slapshot and terror . Although the winter special was sold out, the Pressure Festival only took place once a year in order to avoid the effort involved.
From June 25th to 27th, 2004 the Pressure Festival took place for the first time in the Gysenberghalle in Herne. Among others, Agnostic Front , Born from Pain, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage and Maroon played .
In 2005 the Pressure Festival took place from June 24th to 26th, again in the Gysenberghalle. With Napalm Death , Sick of It All and Suicidal Tendencies three very important bands could be won for the festival. In 2005, the death of a 26-year-old visitor caused a stir, as it was initially suspected that an injury resulting from a Wall of Death was the cause. As it turned out a few days later, however, a heart defect was the reason for the death of the concert-goer. Nevertheless, a total of 19 festival guests had to receive medical treatment.
In 2006 the festival took place on June 23rd in the Soundgarden in Dortmund and on June 24th and 25th in the Gysenberghalle. The festival had to move to Dortmund due to the soccer world championship and a larger public viewing event associated with it, as the Herne police would otherwise not have sufficient capacity. As I Lay Dying , The Haunted , Ignite , Madball , Maroon and Narziss played among others .
In 2007 the Pressure Festival took place every 3 days from June 22nd to 24th, 2007 in the Gysenberghalle. Among others, Sick of It All , Parkway Drive , Casey Jones and As I Lay Dying occurred.
The seventh Pressure Festival took place on the weekend of June 27-29, 2008.
