Throwdown is an American metalcore band. Throwdown has performed at Ozzfest , Sounds of the Underground and the Warped Tour . According to their own description, the band's music is "heavy, metallic, dynamic and driving".

history

Throwdown started out as a kind of "joke band". Quickly developed a following in the hardcore punk scene of Orange County ( California ). Keith Barney, now with Eighteen Visions , was the band's original lead singer. Former Eighteen Visions guitarist and current bleeding-through singer Brandan Schieppati was also an early member of the group, but not from the start. Schiepettati replaced Eighteen Visions bassist Javier Van Huss shortly before the band recorded their demo for Prime Directive Records. Indecision Records released the debut album Beyond Repair shortly after Dave Peters joined as guitarist and replaced Schieppati. The EP Drive Me Dead and a second album, You Don't Have to Be Blood to Be Family , followed. Throwdown is a straight-edge band that writes appropriate songs and lyrics.

Trustkill Records signed the band shortly before the release of Haymaker , the first album with Peters as the singer. The band recorded the album with a studio drummer because Marc Jackson was asked to leave the band. Matt Mently, who had represented Barney on a number of occasions, joined the group as an official member just before they were given their place at Ozzfest 2004. Tommy Love (guitar) became a part-time member for several months before leaving the band in December 2004. In January of the following year the band - consisting of Peters, Mentley, Dussault and bassist Dom Macaluso - wrote a new album with Vendetta , which they recorded with producer Zeuss (including Shadows Fall ) in his "Planet Z" studios. Choiniere joined in April 2005, a few months before the album was released. Macaluso, the only remaining original member, left the band in September 2005 to join Diana Gone Wrong. Mentley later took over the bass.

style

Roughly summarized, Throwdown play a bit more hardcore-heavy Metalcore than their genre colleagues from Killswitch Engage or As I Lay Dying .

Initially, the style of music was completely hardcore, but on the two albums Haymaker and Vendetta they mixed several metal influences into their previous music. Up until that point there were still pure metalcore songs.

Michael Edele compares the band on laut.de in his review of the 2007 studio album Venom and Tears with Pantera . In addition, in his opinion, Throwdown has finally arrived completely in the metal area and there are only subtle elements of hardcore to be heard.
