Good Clean Fun is a straight-edge band from Washington , which musically belongs to Hardcore and Melodic Hardcore .

history

The band was founded in 1997 by four vegans who were musically influenced mainly by Gorilla Biscuits , 7 Seconds and Minor Threat . The band name was borrowed from a song by the Descendents . Basically, the GCF maxim is based on a positive attitude towards life, which is why they are musically in a sub-scene, the so-called positive hardcore. The band members see themselves as representatives of the straight edge movement, but do not take themselves too seriously (which many members of the straight edge culture are often accused of).

The first 7 "was released in the summer of 1998 and, with its internal humor, hit the nerve of the scene at that time, the second 7" came in autumn (both 7 "were later reissued a few times by other labels in different formats). After appearances GCF toured Europe for the first time in the USA in mid-1999, and the band was able to make many fans and friends thanks to the sympathetic demeanor and the positive charisma of their front man.Together with the release of the first album in January 2000, another extensive tour through Europe followed which the band was celebrated frenetically in front of mostly full houses. GCF toured almost continuously all over the world in 2000 and 2001 (Europe each summer) before the band finally split up in 2002. In 2004 the band was formed by Issa Diao Recomposed and GCF began to play concerts again, a new album followed in early 2006, and in 2007 a combo was released with “Crouching Tiger ...” position of old, sold out pieces.

GCF became known and popular beyond the scene above all for their humor. Singer and songwriter Issa uses irony and exaggeration to not only deal with socially relevant issues such as religion , sexism or animal rights ; with particular success, the own straight edge and hardcore punk scene with all its excesses (e.g. hardline or Christian hardcore / punk bands and labels) is repeatedly targeted . The vinyl version of the first album was released in the USA with four different covers, each cover caricaturing a different hardcore punk sub-scene ( emo , crustcore , metalcore , youth crew).

Much of the records up to 2001 were released in the USA by the then bassist Mike Phyte, who gave up his label in 2002 to devote himself to other tasks. The albums Today the Scene ... and Crouching Tiger ... were released by Issa Diao, the head of the band, himself.
