Descendents is a punk band from California that was formed in 1978. The style of the band combines the musical intensity of hardcore punk with catchy vocal melodies, which is why the Descendents, alongside the bands Adolescents and Bad Religion , also from Southern California and founded at the same time, are pioneers of both pop punk and melodic hardcore be expected.
history
The line-up initially consisted of the three members Tony Lombardo ( bass ), Frank Navetta ( guitar ) and Bill Stevenson ( drums ). In early appearances, David Nolte, who was friends with the band members, acted as singer, but in 1979 he switched to The Last as bassist . In the same year the rest of the band played the first single Ride the Wild , which was released in 1980 and on which Lombardo and Navetta acted as vocalists. With Milo Aukerman the group found a permanent singer with whom they recorded the "FAT" EP in 1980 .
The debut album Milo Goes to College was released in 1982. After the following tour, the band members went their separate ways.
Drummer Bill Stevenson played briefly with Black Flag before the band returned to the studio in 1985 to record Descendents second long player I Don't Want to Grow Up . After another album, Enjoy (1986), Lombardo and Navetta left the band. They were replaced by Karl Alvarez (bass) and Stephen Egerton (guitar). With this line-up, the fourth studio album All was created in 1987 .
After a tour, the band split a second time as Aukerman continued his studies in biology. The rest of the band re-formed with Dave Smalley ( DYS , Dag Nasty ) and released their next album as ALL . In 1996 Milo found his way back to the band and the Descendents album Everything Sucks was released on Epitaph Records .
After another long hiatus, in which the band resumed as ALL (this time with Chad Price as singer), Descendents got back together in 2004 and released the album Cool to Be You and the EP 'Merican on Fat Wreck Chords . In 2006, the US sports shoe manufacturer Vans launched a model that depicts the band's name and their mascot Milo. The shoe model was relaunched in 2015.
In 2013, Filmage was released , a documentary about the Descendents that illuminates the band's career through interviews.
