DYS is an American hardcore punk band from Boston . Together with SS Decontrol and Negative FX and later Last Rights , the band formed the so-called “Boston Crew”, a group that had a great deal of influence on the spread of the straight-edge movement.
history
Dave Smalley founded DYS in 1984 with Jonathan Anastas. DYS stands for "Department of Youth Services", an institution that takes care of young criminals. The Wolfpack demo was recorded with Dave Collins on drums and Andy Strachan as guitarist . Then joined the band Andy Strachan as a permanent guitarist. On SS Decontrol's label XClaim! the album Brotherhood was released . It became one of the most important releases of the Boston hardcore punk scene. With Ross Luongo, a second guitarist joined the group and the band began to orientate itself more towards speed metal . In 1985 the album DYS was released , which was also the last work of the band. The band broke up due to musical and personal differences. Dave Smalley then founded Dag Nasty .
Reunification 2010
Antidote singer Drew Stone was planning a 2010 documentary about the Boston hardcore punk scene and asked Dave Smalley to perform a concert with DYS as part of the documentary. In fact, the reformed band was able to sell 1,100 tickets within a very short time. After the successful performance, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones signed the band for their Hometown Throwdown concert series . The live album More than Fashion: LIVE from the Gallery East Reunion followed shortly afterwards, which includes the performance for the reunification. The band has now recorded some new songs that are expected to be marketed on iTunes .
