Dave Smalley is an American singer and guitarist who was or is active in various bands.

Life

Dave Smalley earned a bachelor's degree from Boston College and a master's degree in politics from California State University, Los Angeles . He worked as a teacher for a while. Today he lives in Fredericksburg , Virginia , where he writes for The Free Lance Star, a daily newspaper for the city.

In 1983, Smalley formed the band DYS , which were vital to the Boston straight-edge scene. This was followed by the post-hardcore band Dag Nasty , then the punk band ALL and finally Down By Law in 1989 . Smalley also performs solo as a singer-songwriter. In 2018 he announced his new project Dave Smalley & The Bandoleros.

Dave Smalley is no longer “straight edge” today. Smalley is one of the more conservatively oriented punk musicians today .
