John William "Bill" Stevenson (born September 10, 1963 in Torrance , California ) is an American musician and record producer. He is the drummer and songwriter for the punk band Descendents .

In December 1981 he played a few shows with Black Flag because their drummer ROBO was imprisoned in England after a tour. After various appearances and albums with Black Flag until 1985, he then returned to the Descendents and played with them until Milo Aukerman left the band in 1987 to go to college.

After Milo Aukerman left the band, Stevenson formed the band ALL with the rest of the Descendents , in which Aukermann was initially replaced by singer Dave Smalley from Dag Nasty .

The Descendents reunited in the mid-1990s and have since recorded the albums Everythings Sucks (1996) and Cool To Be You (2004). Since 2003 he has also been active in the band Only Crime .

Bill Stevenson now runs the O&O Recordings studio in Fort Collins . Stevenson was already involved in the production of several albums during the Black Flag times. He later worked for other bands such as Rise Against , As I Lay Dying and Good Riddance .

The Rolling Stone listed Stevenson as 89th of the 100 best drummers of all time in 2016 .
