Sworn Enemy is a crossover thrash / hardcore band from Queens ( New York ), which was founded in the 1997th Sal Lococo has been the only constant member since it was founded. The music integrates influences from different metal genres.
Band history
In 1997 the two guitarists Lorenzo Antonucci and Mike Raffinello founded the band Mindset together with singer Sal Lococo . They started performing live with bass player Shawn Cox and a drummer. After a single had already been recorded, the name was changed to Sworn Enemy in 1999 because another band with the old name already existed. Although few funds and no record deal were available, the EP Negative Outlook was recorded with the help of Mike Dijion .
This release moved Jamey Jasta ( Hatebreed ) to sign her to his label Stillborn Records . He also started acting as a manager for Sworn Enemy. Although the EP sold well, Shawn Cox and the drummer left the band and were replaced by Cold As Life members , bassist Mike Couls and Timmy Mycek on drums. The two had looked for a new band after their old band broke up and found themselves at Sworn Enemy. Several appearances followed, including with Hatebreed, Agnostic Front and Unearth , until they released the album As Real As It Gets in June 2003, this time on the major label Elektra Records .
They then toured the US with Fear Factory , Slipknot and Chimaira . Then guitarist Mike Raffinello and Mike Couls left the band. As a replacement on bass, the old band member Shawn Cox was called back into the line-up, guitarist Jamin Hunt also joined the band. In January 2006, The Beginning of the End was released , which was published by Abacus in the USA and produced by Tim Lambesis ( As I Lay Dying ).
This was followed by a tour with Anthrax , Manntis and God Forbid , until the album was released in Europe via Century Media .
The new album called "Maniacal" was released in Europe on November 9, 2007, and in February 2008 in the USA. On this album, As-I-Lay-Dying drummer Jordan Mancino recorded the drums for Paul Antignai, who has since dropped out. There are even more Thrash Metal influences on this album than on its predecessor The Beginning Of The End . There is also a tour to "Maniacal" with Agnostic Front, on the Persistence tour with Hatebreed, Ignite and Evergreen Terrace among others .
In December 2009 founding member Lorenzo Antonucci announced that he was leaving Sworn Enemy and would now like to take care of his new band Smashface. On January 9, 2018, it was announced that former drummer Paul Antignani had passed away for reasons unknown.
style
Sworn Enemy play hardcore from the 1990s, combined with elements of Thrash Metal . Used Techniques are double bass and staccato - riffs . They see themselves as being influenced by old New York hardcore bands like Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front , and metal bands like Slayer , Anthrax and Metallica are important influences. In places it is claimed that the band is Christian oriented, which they themselves deny.
