By Night is a Swedish metalcore band from Falkenberg .
history
By Night was founded in 1999 by the two guitarists André Gonzales and Simon Wien as well as the drummer Per Quarnström, who had all played in the band Predicted Conspiracy before, but now wanted to adopt a different musical direction. The band was complete with Henrik Persson (bass) and singer Christoffer Andersson, with whom they also recorded the two demos By Night (2000) and Derelict (2001).
After Andersson was replaced by Adrian Westin, they recorded another demo in 2002, which resulted in a recording deal with Lifeforce Records. After a split CD with Cipher System from 2004, the debut album Burn the Flags was finally released in 2005 . Several tour appearances follow with The Destiny Program , Deadsoil , Disbelief , Ektomorf and Betzefer . After Simon Wien left that same year, bassist Henrik Persson took over the guitar. Marcus Wesslen took over the bass.
In 2006 A New Shape of Desperation was published. The band then toured Sweden. In June 2007 the band played at the With Full Force Festival. In 2008 a message was published on MySpace that the group was working on a new album.
In 2009 Marcus Wesslen left the band to devote himself to his career with Dead by April . Since then he has been represented by Martin Carlsson
In 2012 the new studio album Sympathy for Tomorrow was released. Since the record contract with Lifeforce Records has expired, it is only a digital album for the time being.
Just before the 2012 Metaltown Festival, it was announced that the original singer, Christoffer Andersson, is returning to the band. Martin Carlsson has also been announced as a permanent member.
After joining Dead by April, Christoffer Andersson left the band in 2013. That was announced on May 20th.
style
By Night play a style that was influenced by the Swedish group Meshuggah . Their origins in Melodic Death Metal are another influence. The music is an intersection of modern thrash metal , technical death metal and hardcore punk and is commonly assigned to metalcore. However, the group tries to shed this stigma and sees itself as a band that tries to "do its own thing" without denying its roots in Swedish metal. The band sees itself as apolitical, but denounces social grievances in the style of the hardcore punk scene.
