Dead by April is a Swedish metal band from Gothenburg, founded in 2007 .
history
Foundation and debut album (2007-2010)
The band was formed in February 2007 by the former singer of the band Nightrage , Jimmie Strimell, when he decided to start a musical project with the musician and composer Pontus Hjelm. So the rest of the members came together to complete the band. Although they did not bring out an album in 2007, they did send individual demo versions of their own songs to friends and acquaintances, which quickly made them famous. In 2008, Dead by April decided to release their first single, which could make it into the charts. The demo falling behind did not get a really high ranking in 2008. Still, they received two awards, the Swedish Metal Awards and Bandit Rock Awards for best newcomer.
On May 13, 2009 their debut album Dead by April was released , with which they went on tour with the band Skindred a month later . In the same year her second single, Losing You , was released, which managed to climb to number 1 in the Swedish charts in a short time and to hold it temporarily.
New line-up and incomparable (2010-2011)
In April 2010, Pontus Hjelm left the band to continue working as an independent composer. In May he was replaced by Zandro Santiago, with whom Dead by April recorded a cover version of the song Love Like Blood by Killing Joke . In October 2010 Johan Olsson left the band to work on his own fashion label. The band then looked for a replacement guitarist via the Internet, but they hired him when Pontus Hjelm, as a live member of the band, supported the band during live performances and returned as a full member in 2012.
On January 10, 2011, Stronger , a remixed version of some of the songs from their debut album, was released. This also contains new songs, such as demo recordings from previous years. Dead by April released the EP Within My Heart on May 16, 2011 , which contains three tracks: Within My Heart , Two Faced and a newly recorded version of Unhateable . On September 21, 2011 the band released the new album entitled Incomparable . Weeks beforehand there was the possibility of pre-ordering the second studio album signed. The second single Calling was released from the album on September 19 .
Participation in the Melodifestivalen, third album and renewed line-up change (2012-2017)
In spring 2012, the band with the song took Mystery at Melodifestivalen 2012 , the preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest 2012 , in part. In the first semifinal of the competition in Växjö , the band took second place and went straight to the final, which took place in Stockholm . They finally took seventh place in a field of ten participants.
In November 2012, the band launched a fundraiser on PledgeMusic.com to finance their new album and their first live DVD. In contrast, the donors were offered merchandising items and a reinterpreted version of Found Myself in You . After the campaign was successfully ended, the supply of information about the band stopped. In March, when the fan-funded DVD was due to be released, front man Jimmie Strimell posted an article on his Instagram page about leaving the band. The band was silent until a live performance in the UK had to be canceled. On March 18, the band members, with the exception of Jimmie Strimell, spoke to their fans and stated that he could no longer be part of the band due to personal problems.
“We're deeply sorry to inform you that Jimmie Strimell no longer will be a part of Dead By April. The reason we had to make this decision is because of Jimmie's personal problems […] With that said we also have some good news to announce. We have found our replacement and we want to introduce you to Christoffer “fabrics” Andersson, whom previously been performing as replacer in Sonic Syndicate and been in Markus' other band By Night […] fabrics is a firm member of the band and will obviously be a part of the live shows to come and the record we're currently recording. "
“We are sorry to announce that Jimmie Strimell can no longer be a member of Dead by April due to personal problems. The good news is that we have already found a replacement in the form of Christoffer “fabrics” Andersson. This was already a temporary replacement in the band Sonic Syndicate and was together with bassist Markus Wesslén in the band By Night . Andersson is now a permanent member of Dead by April and will support the band in live performances and in the studio. "
On February 12, 2014, the band Let the World Know released their third album together with the new front man . After this release, drummer and founding member Alexander Svenningson left the band. He was replaced by the former drummer of the bands "The End of Grace" and "Ends With a Bullet" Marcus Rosell. In November of the same year singer Zandro Santiago also left the band. After more than four years, Pontus Hjelm resumed his original role as the band's singer.
Another line-up change after fourth album (since 2017)
Shortly after the release of the new album Worlds Collide on April 7th, 2017, on which Pontus sings the clean parts of the songs for the first time, the band announced on their website that Christoffer “fabrics” Andersson might leave the band at his own request Reasons of his health and an upcoming rehabilitation . However, this left the band open. The band currently lacks a growl vocalist. According to their own information, they are in contact with former member Jimmie Strimell.
On May 2, 2017, the band announced that Jimmie Strimell was back in the band as Unclean singer. On September 1st the band released the EP "Worlds Collide (Jimmie Strimell Sessions)", in which Jimmie took over the unclean parts of 4 songs from "Worlds Collide". On September 15, 2017, the band released a cover version of Linkin Park's song Numb . On October 20th the band released an acoustic EP called "Worlds Collide (Acoustic Sessions)".
