Sonic Syndicate is a Swedish metalcore band from Falkenberg . The band was formed in 2002 as Fallen Angels. Some of the biggest influences are bands like In Flames and Killswitch Engage . The band itself calls their style "(Un) true nuclear metal".

Band history

The brothers Roger and Richard Sjunnesson as well as their cousin Robin Sjunesson played with schoolmates in various bands in 2002. Because the three wanted to start their own project with a different musical direction, the trio founded the band Fallen Angels . At the time, the band was playing traditional heavy metal , which was largely influenced by Iron Maiden and Helloween .

In March 2003 the band played their first concert as part of a talent competition at their school. The competition could not be won, but the band was satisfied with the reactions of the audience and the competition.

Within a year the band recorded three demos . The second and third demo were recorded in Studio Mega (including Lake of Tears , The Crown , Beseech ). The Fallen Angels then played many concerts all over Scandinavia .

In December 2004, the band signed a contract with the US company Pivotal Records. At the time, the band gave a lot of thought to their name. Eventually the band changed their name to Sonic Syndicate . In the opinion of the band, the new name was better suited to the music. In spring 2005, the band returned to Studio Mega and recorded the debut album "Eden Fire". The album was released in September of the same year.

A year later, Sonic Syndicate took part in a youth competition launched by Nuclear Blast . The Swedes were able to prevail over 1500 other bands and were chosen as the winner. As a reward, the band was signed by Nuclear Blast.

In 2006 Andreas Martensson left the band. Kristoffer Bäcklund also wanted to concentrate on his own band What Tomorrow Brings, in which he is a singer. John Bengtsson replaced him on drums.

On November 20, 2006, Sonic Syndicate began recording their second album, Only Inhuman, in the Black Lounge studio in Avesta . The album is produced together with Jonas Kjellgren (guitarist of Scar Symmetry ) and was released on May 18, 2007. Also in 2007 Sonic Syndicate performed at With Full Force and Wacken Open Air .

The band toured as part of the Darkness over X-Mas tour with Caliban , Heaven Shall Burn , The Sorrow , Maroon and Misery Speaks .

In 2008 the band also played at the twin festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park as well as at Summer Breeze and Nova Rock . In the same year they gave a concert tour through Denmark, Germany and Austria with their role models from In Flames .

The third studio album Love and Other Disasters was also produced by Scar Symmetry guitarist Jonas Kjellgren and was released on September 19, 2008.

At the beginning of 2009, Roland Johansson announced that he would leave the band for personal reasons after the end of the tour in 2009. He is now active in the Swedish band Dodge .

In late August 2009, Nathan J. Biggs was announced as his successor.

In early 2010, Sonic Syndicate began recording their fourth studio album, We Rule the Night . The publication date was initially stated as May 28, 2010, but the publication was postponed to August 27, 2010. The album cover artwork was released on March 5, 2010. It was designed by Gustavo Sazes in collaboration with the band. The musical style of the album is very different from its predecessors. It contains significantly fewer features of Melodic Death Metal and Metalcore, but is very pop- heavy, which is rated both positively and negatively by fans and fanzines . It is also the first album on which Nathan J. Biggs appears as a singer. In September of the same year the video for Turn it Up was released , which was deleted shortly after its publication on various video platforms due to offensive content. It was then put back online in a censored version.

On October 26, 2010, the band announced on their official homepage that singer Richard Sjunnesson would no longer take part in the We Rule the World Tour for "family and personal reasons" . Two days later Richard corrected this statement on his blog , stating that he had left the band because the band was "unable to play decent music" . He also made it clear that he is not satisfied with the band's new style of music. He then started a new project with his brother Roger Sjunnesson and Roland Johansson, which is called The Unguided .

Richard was represented live by Christoffer Andersson.

On June 12, 2012, co-founder Roger Sjunnesson announced on the homepage of his second band The Unguided that he had also left Sonic Syndicate.

On May 5th, 2013 SoSy announced on their official Twitter account that they were working on a new studio album. Almost a year later, on April 25, 2014, the album Sonic Syndicate was announced for July 4, 2014. It was also announced that Björn Strid , the singer of Soilwork , could be won as a guest musician for the song Before You Finally Break . On May 16, 2014, Black Hole Halo was featured as the first single on Nuclear Blast's YouTube channel . The music video for Before You Finally Break was released June 6th.

On August 7, 2015, the band announced that Karin Axelsson had been replaced by Michel Bärzén on bass. In February 2016, Sonic Syndicate signed a contract with the Swedish label Despotz Records and said they were already working on a new album.
