The Sorrow was a metalcore band from Vorarlberg in Austria .

history

The band was founded in 2005 by the current band members. Mathias "Mätze" Schlegel and Andreas "Andi" Mäser played for years in the band Disconnected , Dominik "Dewey" Immler and Tobias "Tobi" Schedler in the hardcore band Distance . Dominik joined Disconnected and later Tobi replaced the band's bass player, so that the current line-up was complete.

In 2006 The Sorrow received a recording contract with Drakkar Records . On July 27, 2007, their debut album Blessings from a Blackened Sky was released , which was selected by Metal Hammer magazine as "Album of the Month August 2007", which preceded the award for "Demo of the Month" a few months earlier. A short time later, on August 2, 2007, the band performed at the Wacken Open Air Festival. In autumn they went on a European tour with the band DevilDriver and in February the first headlining tour followed with Misery Speaks and Grantig as support. For March 2008 The Sorrow were confirmed as support for the upcoming European tour of Chimaira . They were also represented on June 13, 2008 at the Nova Rock Festival and appeared as the first band of the day.

The second studio album Origin of the Storm was released on February 27, 2009. In Austria it entered the sales charts at number 15, in Germany it reached number 56. At the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards 2009 the band won in the “Hard & Heavy” category. The self-titled album The Sorrow was released on October 29, 2010, and the fourth studio album Misery Escape on October 26, 2012 . The band broke up on March 15, 2017.

style

Their style was in the field of metal core, but also had influences from melodic death metal . Singer and guitarist "Mätze" mainly used screaming, but also sang clearly. The music could best be described as a mix of the bands In Flames , Killswitch Engage and Caliban .
