Company history

Lordi at the opening of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007

Bogdan "Boggi" Kopec began in 1968 as the manager of the band Faithful Breath ; he came into contact with metal when Karl Walterbach from Noise Records hired him. In 1981 he founded his own music publisher, Kopec Musikverlag; this changed its name to Drakkar Promotion in 1986 and from then on concentrated almost exclusively on marketing young bands from the then burgeoning metal scene . Among other things, the German groups Kreator , Sodom , Rage and Running Wild made the breakthrough.

Because of a collaboration with BMG , the label was renamed Drakkar Promotion Musikverlag GmbH in 1992. However, this cooperation ended in 1999; the company has existed since then under the name Drakkar Entertainment GmbH.

The label's greatest success are the two gold records that the Finnish hard rock band Lordi won in Germany after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 for the single Hard Rock Hallelujah and their album The Arockalypse . The Finnish band Nightwish , which was under contract with Drakkar until 2004, later achieved gold awards in 2007 for their Drakkar albums Wishmaster and Century Child . A few years earlier, the DVDs From Wishes to Eternity and End of Innocence , which were also released by Drakkar, and the best-of album Tales from the Elvenpath had already been awarded gold.
