Rimlingen is a district of the municipality of Losheim am See in the Merzig-Wadern district ( Saarland ).

geography

In the north, adjacent to the Kupp elevation and in the south on the Hungerberg, in the valley of the Dellbach, lies the district of Rimlingen. The place is located at 290  m above sea level. NHN .

history

Rimlingen was founded between 600 and 800 AD . The first documentary mention was made in the 11th century in a document from Archbishop Albero von Trier.

The then Rumeliga , later Roemlingen , was completely depopulated after the Thirty Years War . Repopulation took place very slowly.

The oldest building in the village is the church tower of the parish church Heilig Kreuz Rimlingen, which dates back to the 12th century and is a listed building.

On January 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Rimlingen was incorporated into the municipality of Losheim.

The town's coat of arms is divided into four. In the upper right quarter there is a red cross on a silver background: the coat of arms of the former Electorate of Trier . To the left of it is a silver bishop's staff on a red background. At the bottom right is a silver lion on a black background. The last quarter shows a black cross on a silver background.

Personalities

From 1996 to 2003, today's auxiliary bishop of Trier, Jörg Michael Peters, was a Catholic pastor and, from 2001, he was also dean in the Rimlingen parish vicarage .
