Jörg Michael Peters (born April 17, 1960 in Saarbrücken-Altenkessel ) is auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Trier .

Life

After graduating from high school, Jörg Michael Peters studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Trier Theological Faculty . He was ordained a priest on July 18, 1987 . Then he was chaplain in Bendorf St. Medard and Weitersburg St. Marien until 1990 , then until 1996 secretary and episcopal chaplain of Bishop Hermann Josef Spital . In 1991 he became vicar of the Trier Cathedral of St. Peter. In 1996 Bishop Spital appointed him pastor of Losheim am See St. Peter and Paul and Rimlingen Finding the Cross , from 2000 also pastor of Bachem St. Willibrord . In 2001 the clergy of the deanery elected Jörg Michael Peters as dean of the Losheim am See deanery .

Pope John Paul II appointed Peters on December 9, 2003 titular bishop of Forum Traiani and auxiliary bishop in Trier. The Bishop of Trier Reinhard Marx donated him the episcopal ordination on February 8, 2004 in Trier Cathedral; Co-consecrators were Hermann Josef Spital and Auxiliary Bishop Leo Schwarz .

Auxiliary Bishop Peters is deputy chairman of the youth commission in the German Bishops' Conference ; He is also a member of the Liturgy Commission and the Sub-Commission for Religious Relations with Judaism and is the responsible bishop for the DJK Sports Youth . In September 2017, the Bishops' Conference appointed him National Delegate for the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest (September 13-20, 2020).

Peters is Episcopal Vicar in the Diocese of Trier for the visitation district of Koblenz , which consists of the areas of the former administrative district of Koblenz that belong to the Diocese of Trier .

Coat of arms and motto

The semicircular shield, divided at the top and half-split at the bottom, shows a lying red cross on a white and silver background, the diocese coat of arms of Trier. Below, in front on a red background, a golden, lance-pierced dragon (attribute of St. George and St. Michael, his patron saint), behind on a blue background a silver key, the key Petri, as a reference to the surname.

Behind the shield is the bishop's cross, above it the green galero (bishop's hat ) with the six green tassels (fiocchi) hanging down.

His motto is: Deus fidelis (“God is faithful”) from 1. Corinthians ( 1 Cor 1,9  EU ).
