Gerhard Jakob (born November 24, 1933 in Hülzweiler ; † May 4, 1998 in Trier ) was a German Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Trier .

Life

Gerhard Jakob was the son of a miner's family . After his ordination on July 11, 1959 and a time as a chaplain in Simmern / Hunsrück and Mayen , he took over the position of a religion teacher at the vocational schools in Saarburg . This was followed by the activity as pastor and dean in Kastel and Saarburg. In 1972 he became regional dean in Trier, and Bishop Hermann Josef Spital appointed him his vicar general in 1981 .

On November 8, 1993, Gerhard Jakob was appointed auxiliary bishop in Trier and titular bishop of Vergi . Bishop Spital donated him episcopal ordination on December 12th of the same year . Co - consecrators were Archbishop Fernand Franck from Luxemburg and Karl Heinz Jacoby , auxiliary bishop in Trier. Auxiliary Bishop Jakob was particularly assigned to the Saarbrücken visitation district within the diocese . After only five years in office, he died unexpectedly on May 4, 1998. The consecrators who ordained him bishop also took part in the requiem , and among the numerous co-celebrants was the auxiliary bishop emeritus Walter Jansen from the Archdiocese of Cologne . Shortly before his death, Jakob had determined the prayers and readings for the death officer himself.

Auxiliary Bishop Jakob was buried in the Auxiliary Bishop's Chapel on the cathedral cloister of Trier Cathedral . Felix Genn was appointed his successor .
