Rhineland-Palatinate personal database

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rhineland-Palatinate Person Database ( RPPD ) is an Internet database of short biographies of people who lived or worked in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is at four academic libraries processed in Rhineland-Palatinate: Rheinische Landesbibliothek Koblenz , Palatine State Library Speyer (both Landesbibliothekszentrum Rhineland-Palatinate), City Library Mainz , Stadtbibliothek Trier . The RPPD is hosted by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Library Center .

When researching the Rhineland-Palatinate Bibliography , biographical information often appears. In 2004, the idea of our own database was developed from this. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, it was opened to the public in May 2007.

The criterion for admission is that a person was born, died or worked there for a long time in the area of what is now Rhineland-Palatinate (even before the state was founded in 1946). The basic requirement is that the person is of public interest. In August 2019, there were over 12,000 people since Roman times. With the permission of the rights holder, data from printed biographical reference works were also taken over. As far as deceased persons are concerned, the name registers have also been integrated into the biography portal since March 2012 and into the German biography since 2014 . A data record consists of the following information (if it can be determined): name forms, gender, life dates, places of life and work, professions, specialist areas, relationships with other people (inside and outside the RPPD), own works, sources, biographical text. All of this information can also be researched.
