Johann Heinrich Milz

Johann Heinrich Milz (born November 21, 1763 in Koblenz ; † April 29, 1833 there ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Trier .

Life

Johann Heinrich Milz came from a family of bakers. He studied Catholic theology at the seminary in Trier and received on 21 December 1786 ordination . He worked as a grammar school teacher in Koblenz for three years and then studied philosophy and law at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the Georg August University in Göttingen . In 1792 he was appointed canon at the collegiate monastery of St. Kastor in Koblenz, and in 1804 he became a member of the Episcopal Spiritual Council in Koblenz. In 1813 he became president of the Conseil ecclésiastique in the French département de Rhin-et-Moselle of the diocese of Aachen , and in the same year also pastor in Koblenz. From 1816 he worked part-time as the Royal Consistorial Councilor in Koblenz.

Pope Leo XII. appointed him titular bishop of Sarepta and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Trier in 1825 . He was ordained bishop on April 23, 1826 by the Bishop of Trier, Josef von Hommer . In 1828 he was elected cathedral capital at Trier Cathedral , the oldest bishop's church in Germany.
