Martin Persch (born February 15, 1948 in Linz am Rhein , † December 25, 2013 in Trier ) was a German Catholic theologian and historian . From 1987 to 2013 he headed the Trier diocese archive .

Martin Persch studied Catholic theology in Trier and Regensburg , among others with Joseph Ratzinger . In 1978 he began his two-year training in the church archives service in the Trier diocese archive. In 1987 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the Trier diocesan hymn. In the same year he became the acting successor of the Trier diocese archivist Alois Thomas . In 1989 he took over the management of the archive. He retired in April 2013 and passed away a few months later. He was married and had three children.

Persch's list of publications includes over 600 titles that deal primarily with the history of the (arch) diocese of Trier. During his service as archivist , the Trier diocese archive was fundamentally modernized and expanded to include a branch. Persch was primarily concerned with securing and taking over parish archives, which could no longer remain in their original location due to the falling number of priests, the amalgamation of parishes and the sale of former parsonages.

Martin Persch wrote numerous articles in the Biographisch-Bibliographisches Kirchenlexikon (BBKL).
