Johann Heinrich von Anethan (* 1628 in Trier ; † June 18, 1693 in Cologne ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman. He worked as vicar general and auxiliary bishop in Cologne and Hildesheim . He was also temporarily auxiliary bishop in Trier and finally co-administrator in Cologne.

Life

Anethan was born in Trier in 1628 as the son of the Electorate Chancellor Johann von Anethan and his wife Elisabeth Gobelius. After attending grammar school in Trier, he studied from 1649 to 1652 in Rome at the Collegium Germanicum . In 1652 he received his doctorate as Dr. iur. can. He was ordained a priest and became a canon at St. Simeon in Trier and dean in Wimpfen. In 1658 he became an official for the Niederstift Trier.

1663 Bishop named him Max Henry of Bavaria to Offizial and vicar general in Hildesheim. Since 1665 he was titular bishop of Hierapolis in Isauria and auxiliary bishop in Hildesheim. He also received the offices of dean of the monastery of the Holy Cross in Hildesheim and provost at the monastery of Simon and Judas in Goslar.

In 1679 he became a member of the Cologne Cathedral Chapter in place of Auxiliary Bishop Paul von Aussem . A year later, after his death, he took over the office of auxiliary bishop in Cologne. The archbishop also appointed him vicar general on January 7, 1680. In 1683 he was also a scholar at St. Gereon .

When choosing a successor to the late Archbishop Max Heinrich, he voted in 1688 for Joseph Clemens of Bavaria . Since he was not yet the required age for his office, the Pope appointed Anethan as co-administrator.

As in the Archdiocese of Trier , he also made various general visits as Vicar General in the Archdiocese of Cologne. In 1682, for example, he carried out an extensive general visit to the Duchy of Westphalia.

He died on June 18, 1693 in Cologne.
