Konrad von Arnsberg

Konrad von Arnsberg OCarm († July 31, 1433 ) was auxiliary bishop in Cologne .

Konrad, probably from the family of the Counts of Arnsberg , was born around the middle of the 14th century. He entered the Carmelite order in Cologne. He taught logic and was the rector of the students in the Carmelite monastery in Cologne . In 1368, the Synod decided his order him to the University of Vienna around there at the then famous professor to send, Arnold de Austria also theology study. He later returned to his province and became a lecturer in the convent in Kassel .

After the death of his predecessor, Konrad became titular bishop of Venecopol in Armenia in 1399 and served under Archbishops Friedrich III until 1433 . von Saar Werden and Dietrich II. von Moers as auxiliary bishop.

In addition, he continued his scientific education and enrolled at the new University of Cologne in 1410 .

In the Carmelite Church in Cologne, he had a Marienkapelle built at his own expense. In this, Konrad founded the larger Marian brotherhood, which spread from there across Europe and still existed in some places in the 19th century.

Konrad also worked as an author. He wrote various letters to the clergy and the people.

After his death he was buried in front of the altar in the chapel he had donated. There is a portrait of the auxiliary bishop.
