Johann Nopel the Younger
Johann Nopel the Younger (born January 6, 1548 in Lippstadt ; † January 6, 1605 in Cologne ) was auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Cologne and rector of the University of Cologne .
Life
Nopel was professor of theology at Cologne University from 1591 , and rector from 1594 to 1596. He was ordained bishop on March 10, 1602 by the nuncio Coriolan Garzadori in Cologne and was active as auxiliary bishop in Cologne. He was titular bishop of Cyrene .
On December 27, 1604, after a sermon in Cologne Cathedral , he slipped on the ice at the fountain near the cathedral tower. He broke his leg and died on his 57th birthday. His grave is in Cologne Cathedral.
