Theobald Craschel

Theobald Craschel (* around 1511 in Aachen ; † July 31, 1587 in Cologne ) was auxiliary bishop in Cologne.

Life

A native of Aachen Craschel doctorate in 1531 in Cologne Dr. theol. and later also to the Magister artium From 1537 to 1562 he taught at the Bursa Laurentiana in Cologne and was then from 1562 professor of the theological faculty of the medieval University of Cologne . Repeatedly dean, he was rector of the university in 1567/68.

Since 1540 canon at St. Severin in Cologne, he later also became pastor here , but in 1551 he gave up on this canon and in 1554 became pastor at St. Alban in Cologne. As early as February 25, 1568, Archbishop Salentin von Isenburg designated him as auxiliary bishop, and on May 5, 1574 he was appointed titular bishop of Cyrene and auxiliary bishop in Cologne by the pope, who first wanted to wait for the archbishop's request for his own confirmation . As the designated auxiliary bishop already in 1569 to the post-Tridentine visitations involved the Archbishopric, he finally received on September 8, 1574 by the Münster Auxiliary Bishop John Kridt the episcopal ordination .

On June 19, 1577 Craschel issued later Cologne Archbishop Ernst of Bavaria , the ordination and trust in the same year his predecessor with the Countess Antonia Wilhelma Arenberg. In 1578 he ordained Archbishop Gebhard I von Waldburg as a priest in Brühl .

Craschel's grave is in the Church of St. Severin in Cologne.
