Karl Heinz Jacoby

Karl Heinz Jacoby (born August 11, 1918 in Göttelborn ; † January 29, 2005 in Trier ) was an auxiliary bishop of Trier .

Life

Karl Heinz Jacoby grew up in a family of miners in Saarland. As a soldier in World War II , he was wounded several times. In 1948 he was ordained a priest and became a chaplain in Trier in the parish of St. Barbara, then secret secretary of Bishop Matthias Wehr . From 1959 to 1968 he was director of the Bishop's Convict in Trier. On May 3, 1968 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed titular bishop of Sulci and auxiliary bishop in Trier. The episcopal ordination received his Bishop Bernhard Stein on June 11 of that year; Co-consecrators were the Trier auxiliary bishop Carl Schmidt and the Luxembourg coadjutor bishop Jean Hengen .

Jacoby was a member of the Trier cathedral chapter since 1975 . On October 25, 1993 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation, which he had submitted for reasons of age.

Jacoby is credited with great merits in the reconciliation between France and Germany, as he was responsible for the connection between the bishops' conferences of the two countries.

He died on January 29, 2005 at the age of 86 in Trier after a stroke and was buried on February 5, 2005 in the auxiliary bishop's chapel of Trier Cathedral .
