Franz Josef Gebert (born February 21, 1949 in Schweich on the Moselle) is a German clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Trier .

Life

As the son of a family of winemakers from Schweich , Franz Josef Gebert initially completed an apprenticeship as a wine merchant. He then studied in Trier and as a Germanic at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Trier on October 10, 1977 in Rome by Cardinal Joseph Höffner . His consecration from the letter of Peter reads: "Serve one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each with the gift that he has received."

From 1979 to 1981 he was chaplain in Sinzig and then personal secretary of the Trier Bishop Hermann Josef Spital and chaplain at Trier Cathedral . In 1985 he became sub-rain of the Trier seminary and in 1991 head of the pastoral services department in the Episcopal General Vicariate. From 1995 it was also ceremonial in the cathedral . Franz Josef Gebert has been chairman of the Diocesan Caritas Association in Trier since 2000. In 2001 Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Pontifical Honorary Prelate . In 2002 he was appointed cathedral chapter and has been cathedral dean of the Trier cathedral chapter since 2004 . In 2005 he was named Honorary Chaplain of the Order of Malta .

On 31 May 2017 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Vegesela in Byzacena and Auxiliary Bishop in Trier . The Bishop of Trier, Stephan Ackermann , donated him his episcopal ordination on September 3rd of the same year in Trier Cathedral. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Luxembourg , Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ , and the Trier Auxiliary Bishop Jörg Michael Peters . In the German Bishops' Conference he is a member of the Faith Commission and the Commission for Society and Social Issues.
