The Weitersburg coat of arms has a very recent history. The Ministry of the Interior awarded the community of Weitersburg its official coat of arms on June 5, 1950. The blazon of the two-part escutcheon shows in the upper half a golden lion on a red background looking to the heraldic right side, while the lower half represents a stylized red building on a golden background standing on a mountain. The lion is the heraldic animal of the county of Sayn, to which the Sayner Klosterhof zu Weitersburg belonged, which is mentioned in the first documentary mention of Weitersburg in 1202. The building stands for the former Roman homestead , which was discovered in Weitersburg in 1896.
