Welling is a municipality in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Mayen-Koblenz . Welling belongs to the Maifeld community , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Polch .
geography
Welling is three and a half kilometers north of Polch above the Nettetal . The village reaches up to 80 meters to the Nette and extends on a ridge sloping to the east and to the Nette to the south, with altitudes between 190 m above sea level. NHN and 235 m above sea level NHN includes. The Horley hill ( 240 m above sea level ) rises south between Welling and Nette . In terms of its natural surroundings , the scarcely forested municipal area can almost entirely be assigned to the Pellenzhöhe , while to the north there is the transition to the Pellenz depression . Welling includes the Hof Hochlayermühl and Erlenberghof residential areas .
history
The name of the community is probably derived from the Latin wallum (German wall). Welling was first mentioned in a document in 1247.
On December 31, 1975, the then independent municipality Trimbs was incorporated as a district in the municipality Welling. On April 1, 1994, this community of Welling, which consisted of two districts, was dissolved and the communities of Trimbs and Welling were newly formed in their previous form.

The municipal council in Welling consists of twelve council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

mayor
Manfred Gerner became local mayor of Welling in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for another five years with a share of the vote of 86.25%. Gerner is the successor to Dieter Eberz.

Foundation of the coat of arms: Welling belonged to the Counts of Virneburg until 1419 . As an indication of this, the Virneburg diamonds are on the lower shield. As a result, the place belonged to the Electorate of Trier until around 1800 , symbolized by the Electorate of Trier cross in the municipal coat of arms.

Attractions
- Neo-Gothic Catholic parish church of St. Paulinus (built from 1881 to 1883) with a 73 m high tower.
- Remains of the former church from the 13th century, which was expanded into a war memorial chapel.
