Kerben is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Maifeld Association , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Polch .
geography
Kerben is three kilometers east of Polch on a ridge sloping to the north and west. The Kaaner Kopf ( 267 m above sea level ) rises to the southwest . In terms of natural space, the west of the municipal area can be assigned to the main town of the Niedermaifelder Senke , the east and north-east of this section of the Niedermaifelder Höhe and the Karmelenberghöhe . There it reaches almost 325 m above sea level. NHN its highest point on the ground , its lowest on the northern municipal boundary below the federal motorway 48 . The Minkelfeld district to the east of the main town belongs to notches.
Kerben borders (clockwise) on the local communities Ochtendung , Lonnig and Rüber as well as the city of Polch.
history
Kerben is first mentioned as kerve in a deed of donation in 981 . In that year the Archbishop of Trier Egbert von Holland donated an estate called Kerve to the Paulinerstift in Trier. However, local finds during excavations gave testimony to a settlement that had existed for a long time at that time and which dates back to the Stone Age.
For example, a hand-modeled pottery vase and several rubstones were found during a pumice harvest in today's Schirbedein building area in 1980, which provide information about this.
There have been many prehistoric finds in the Kerben area; Particularly sensational in 1938 was the recovery of a pair of scissors and a sword from graves of the Bronze Age at Kerben train station. The Romans also left their mark, as shown by finds in coins with the image of Emperor Augustus .
The district Minkelfeld was first mentioned in 1148 with the then name minchelue .

Municipal council
The local council in Kerben consists of twelve council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary local mayor as chairman. The twelve seats in the municipal council are divided between two groups of voters . The municipal council until 2019 consisted of eight council members who were elected in a majority vote in 2014 .

Kerben is part of the Rhein-Mosel transport association . The nearest train stations are Lehmen and Kobern-Gondorf on the Moselle route Trier - Koblenz (each 10 to 11 km southeast of Kerben) and Thür on the Pellenz-Eifel-Bahn Kaisersesch - Andernach (12 km northwest). The bus line 353 of the Koblenzer Verkehrs-Service offers direct connections from Kerben to Koblenz on weekdays.
In the north of the municipality runs the federal highway 48 Koblenz - Trier ; the next connection points are Polch and Ochtendung .
