Nörtershausen is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Rhein-Mosel community , which has its administrative headquarters in Kobern-Gondorf .

geography

Nörtershausen is located on a ridge of the Vorderhunsrück (also called Moselhunsrück ), in the hinterland of Thurant Castle near Alken on the Moselle . The farms Wildenbungert and Bauhof belong to the place . The district of Pfaffenheck is located to the east, approx. 2 km away, on the Hunsrückhöhenstraße B 327. The A 61 motorway runs here almost parallel to the main road . The Aspeler Bach , that in Niederfell and the Alkener Bach , which flows into the Moselle in Alken, arise in the district of Pfaffenheck .

history

Nörtershausen was first mentioned in a document on April 20, 1324. Katharina von Brodenheim , widow of the knight Heinrich zu Ehrenberg , donated a house and restored the Nörtershausen chapel. Until the end of the 18th century, Nörtershausen belonged to several lords who had rights and income at various farms. The St. Simeonstift zu Trier and the various lords of the Ehrenburg appear particularly frequently in the feudal and lease deeds.

The district of Pfaffenheck was first mentioned on May 1, 1343. A piece of forest with the name Pfaffenheck is shown as originally belonging to the church. After various rejections and changes in the right of disposal, the parishioners of Nörtershausen signed a lease agreement with the canons of Mayen for the use of the Pfaffenheck.

Since the late Middle Ages, Nörtershausen has belonged to the office of Alken of the Münstermaifeld provost, or to the Münstermaifeld electoral office. Feudal and property rights to Nörtershausen have been handed down from both Kurtrier and Kurköln for the 15th and 16th centuries.

In the Napoleonic period from the end of the 18th century, the place became part of the Mairie Niederfell in Canton Boppard . At the beginning of the 19th century Nörtershausen became a municipality belonging to the Brodenbach mayor in the then newly formed district of St. Goar . At the end of the 1960s, the office and district were dissolved in an administrative reform. Nörtershausen was assigned as an independent municipality to the Lower Mosel community in the district of Mayen-Koblenz, which was dissolved in 2014.

Also known as the "Ehrenfriedhof" grave site of almost 150 civilians and soldiers who died in the fighting for Pfaffenheck in March 1945. A mass grave until 1956/57, adorned with a large birch cross and steel helmet right next to the Hunsrückhöhenstrasse. Since November 20, 1957 a row cemetery with stone crosses and iron name and identification plates. Between 1958 and 1965, additional beds were made from neighboring cemeteries and field graves. The majority of those buried were members of the 6th SS Mountain Division "North" . In the 1980s and 1990s there were therefore often debates and protests, accompanied by police operations, against the presence of traditional SS associations on commemorative days. On a stone wall in the entrance area you can read the names of the buried (as far as recognizable) and the names of those who fell and missing from Pfaffenheck between 1939 and 1945. At a central, dominant point is a high stone cross memorial.
