Eight is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Vordereifel , which has its administrative headquarters in Mayen .
Geographical location
The place lies in the Eifel in the valley of the Achterbach and is part of the landscape protection area "Rhein-Ahr-Eifel".
history
The written history goes back to the year 1110.
On 10 June 2003 took over the place a tornado of strength F3 , in which two people were injured. Several buildings were so badly damaged that they had to be demolished.
religion
88% of the residents are Catholic, 4% Protestant. The Catholics belong to the parish of St. Quirinus with seat in the neighboring parish of Langenfeld (Eifel) , Diocese of Trier . The few Protestants are assigned to the Evangelical Church Community of Adenau and its Erlöserkirche .

The municipal council in eight consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Helmut Thelen became the local mayor of Acht on July 25, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with a share of 70.49% of the vote. Thelen's predecessors were Werner Hilger and Nanny Vellguth.
