Kirchwald is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Vordereifel , which has its administrative headquarters in Mayen . Kirchwald is a state-approved climatic health resort .
geography
Kirchwald is located 8 km northwest of Mayen in the "Rhein-Ahr-Eifel" conservation area . Districts are the two immediately adjacent places Kirchesch and Waldesch. The community also includes the residential areas Landhaus Kratz and Riedener Mühlen.
The district consists of 58 percent forest areas and 28 percent agricultural areas (as of 2010) .
history
The oldest documented mention of Kirchesch comes from December 10, 1136. The name appears again in a document from November 25, 1238. In 1366 the Counts von Eltz bought Kirchesch from the Steinfeld Abbey . On January 21, 1472, the Breitbach-Bürresheim estate bought Waldesch from the Olbrück estate .
A school building was built in Kirchesch around 1700; teachers can be verified there from 1713. The old schoolhouse was replaced by a new building in 1826. Today's Kirchescher school house was built in 1936/37.
A new schoolhouse was built in Waldesch in 1894.
In 1909 a water pipe was built between Kirschesch and Waldesch.
The Bürresheim-Kirchesch Höhenstraße, which was completed in 1935, was continued from 1936 to 1937 up to the Hohen Acht .
On June 7, 1969, the community of Kirchwald was formed from the two dissolved communities of Kirchesch (then 493 inhabitants) and Waldesch (292 inhabitants).

The first pastor is mentioned in a document on January 25, 1269, and the first known church was built between 1620 and 1630. In 1906/07 a new parish church was built in Kirchesch.
The rectory, which has been a listed building since 1989 , was built in 1722. A second was built in the village in 1912/13.

Municipal council
The municipal council in Kirchwald consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Local mayor
Armin Seiwert became the local mayor of Kirchwald in 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 80.67% of the vote. Armin Seiwert's predecessor is Erich Pung, who held the office for 22 years.

Personalities
Erich Pung (* 1953), former detective, was made an honorary citizen in 2019. He was honored for his outstanding services to the local community. Living in Kirchwald since 1981, he has been active in club life and local politics ever since. He was a member of the municipal council from 1984 to 1997 and subsequently held the office of local mayor for 22 years until 2019.
Others
The first restaurant was built in Kirchesch in 1844, later the Gasthaus Döbber . Fires hit Kirchesch (1846) and Waldesch (1874). On June 23, 1882, Wilhelm Schäfer from Waldesch received a liquor license.
The Waldesch bachelor club was founded in 1890, and the Kirchesch and Waldesch volunteer fire departments were founded in 1897.
