history
The first mentions of a place called Dickensceit or Dicheset can be found in the list of goods of the Karden monastery from 1100 or in the confirmation of these goods by Pope Urban III. from the year 1186. It is not entirely clear whether this is Ditscheid, as many authors assume. In the literature there is also the interpretation as Dickenschied in the Hunsrück . However, the proximity to Karden and the other places mentioned in these documents speak for Ditscheid.
In 1893, the teacher Steffens wrote the following in the chronicle: “The village of Ditscheid is located about 13 km southwest of Mayen on the left side of the Elz about 1.5 km from the same. Its population was 138 at the last census in 1890. Ditscheid currently has 28 citizens (this probably means houses or families). The residents are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. There is only one craftsman here, namely a blacksmith. Ditscheid forms a school association from 1837 to 1888 with Anschau. "
The chapel of St. Apollonia in the center of the village dates from 1850.

coat of arms
Blazon : "Under the blue head of the shield, inside with silver pliers, in gold 7 (4: 3) red diamonds lined up in 2 bars." | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The silver pliers are the attribute of Saint Apollonia , the local patroness of Ditscheid. The lower part of the shield of the coat of arms contains the coat of arms of the Counts of Virneburg , to whose rule the place belonged. |
