Mertloch is a municipality in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate and is administered by the Maifeld association, which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Polch .

geography

Mertloch is three kilometers south of Polch in a valley basin. The Nothbach rises south of the village . Mertloch also includes the Brückenmühle, Eltzerhof, Gerberhof, Künzerhof and Marienhäuserhof residential areas .

history

Mertloch was first mentioned in a document in 964 under the name Martiliacum . The place belonged to the High Court of Münster , which as part of the Pellenz courts was a fiefdom of the Counts of Virneburg from the 13th to the 15th century and then reverted to Kurtrier . Mertloch represented one of Heimburger the court. In 1684 the village had 49 fireplaces . Wonderfully country they belonged to the late 18th century to the Electorate of Trier and the administration was under the Office Münster-Maienfeld . In 1787 there were 368 residents in the village.

Municipal council

The municipal council in Mertloch consists of 16 council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. The 16 seats in the municipal council are divided between two groups of voters .

Matthias Dahmen became the local mayor of Mertloch in 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 79.83% of the vote. Dahmen is the successor to Stefan Geisbüsch, who did not run again.

	Justification of the coat of arms: It has been used since a resolution passed by the representative body on June 30, 1976 and is reminiscent of the seal image of a Mayen Burgmann von Mertloch around 1340. According to documents from the Koblenz Regional Archives, the coat of arms is based roughly on the earlier coat of arms of D. von Mertloch, electoral Trier Burgmann zu Mayen around 1340.

Attractions

The Holy Cross Chapel is located on a knoll between Mertloch and Naunheim . There is a water playground at the train station , which is particularly popular in summer. The Mertloch farmers' market also takes place every second year in summer.
