geography
The Nothbach rises about 700 m south of Mertloch at 198 m above sea level. NN . As far as the outskirts of the municipality mentioned, the stream flows north, then turns east. The Dalkebach flows out on the left between Mertloch and Gappenach . After the Nothbach in Norden has passed Gappenach, the St. Georgenbach flows out on the left at Birkenhof . At Rüber (Schäfersmühle) he first takes the Polcher Bach on the left and then the Bimbach on the right. At the Haidgermühle, the Kalter Bach flows to the right of the Nothbach . At Dreckenach the Fißbach flows on the right. The Keverbach finally joins the Obersten Mühle on the left. A little later, the Nothbach flows by diverted and piped in the north of Lehmen at 88 m above sea level. NN in the Moselle .
The original estuary was below the northern end of the upper castle in Gondorf until the 1970s . A rock ridge along the Moselle, on which the local church, the castle and palace complex were built, forced the stream a few meters before the river to change direction almost at right angles parallel to the course of the Moselle. In doing so, he formed a water-bearing moat and a natural obstacle to access to the river castle of the Lords von der Leyen from the land side. This is why the castle was sometimes referred to as the "only moated castle on the Moselle".
On its 14 km long path, the Nothbach overcomes an altitude difference of 110 m, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 6.3 ‰. An area of 82,956 km² will be drained.
