Kehrig is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Vordereifel , which has its administrative headquarters in Mayen .

geography

The community is located in the Eifel in the immediate vicinity of the A 48 , which crosses the Elzbachtal on a 350 meter long and 110 meter high bridge .

The Kehrigermühle, Lohbrückermühle, Mädburgermühle, Neumühle, Gertrudenhof and Haus Ahlen residential areas also belong to Kehrig .

history

Kehrig was first mentioned in a document as a church around 1100 . The Ravengiersburg Abbey exchanged an estate in Kirricha with the St. Stephen's Abbey in Mainz around 1103 according to a forged document at the beginning of the 13th century . In 1138 the property of the Abbey of St. Thomas near Andernach in Kehrig can be proven.

The parish church of Kehrig and the tithe , consecrated to Castor von Karden , belonged to the Kastorstift in Karden until 1802 . 1656 owned the church of Kehrig, which after de Lorenzi from the 13./14. It is said to have originated in the 18th century, three altars. The main altar was consecrated to Castor, the side altars to Mary and Peter.

Today's parish church, which was built by the Düsseldorf architect Pickel from 1869 to 1872 , is consecrated to St. Kastor and St. Katharina . There was also a Wolfgang chapel at the end of the village. Another chapel formerly consecrated to Lucia was the so-called Mädburgkapelle. This church, supposedly donated by the von Monreal family , is said to have been consecrated to Our Lady for a long time in 1350. Knight Heinrich Muhl von der Neuerburg provided the chapel with a benefice at that time . The right to propose the chaplain went to the Karden monastery after Heinrich's death. A hermitage used the chapel in the 18th century . The facility no longer existed in 1887. The Mädburg monastery ruins of the chapel have been preserved today.

Local mayor

Stefan Ostrominski (CDU) became local mayor of Kehrig on June 19, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with a share of 71.37% of the vote. Stefan Ostrominski's predecessor was Herbert Keifenheim (SPD), who did not run again after 20 years in office.

Attractions

In the vicinity of the cloister brook, which rises in Kehrig, the Elz flows around a twenty-meter high plateau on which the Mädburg cloister ruins are located. In the village itself and in the immediate vicinity of the village there are many crossroads , some of which are very artfully designed and donated by families, associations and individuals and are intended to remind of certain people or events from the village.
