In 1410 the monastery and town came to the newly created duchy of Pfalz-Simmern . The monastery developed into the largest landowner between the Moselle and Nahe. In 1564, however, it was dissolved when the Reformation was introduced in the duchy, and several attempts to revive it failed. In 1631 the monastery was finally burned down by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years War. In 1673 the Electoral Palatinate became sovereign. The current church was between 1718 and 1722 Elector Karl III. Build Philip of the Palatinate . With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine by French revolutionary troops in 1794, the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French again , the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .
