history

As in Upper Kostenz , there was an early Roman settlement. It was first mentioned in 1310 in a document from the Counts of Sponheim . With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French, the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946.

	Justification of the coat of arms: The chess reminds of the earlier affiliation of the place to the front county of Sponheim . The rear half of the shield with the water wheel is reminiscent of the Sponheim mill mentioned in 1438, the sawmill above and the Bastenmühle below the village. The wave bar is a symbol of the Kehrbach stream that flows through the town.

Wind energy

The Nieder Kostenz wind farm is located on a hill east of the municipality and currently has eight wind turbines from the manufacturers Fuhrländer and Enron . Commissioning took place in early 1999/2000.
