Holzbach is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Simmern-Rheinböllen community .

The place Holzbach is located in the low mountain range of the Hunsrück on a slope and basin, through which the Holzbacher Bach flows towards Ohlweiler and flows into the Simmerbach . About 0.60 km² of the entire municipality area of ​​5.03 km² is covered with forest. The predominant forest form here is the mixed forest . The rural residential community is 5 km from the district town of Simmern.

Infrastructure

The L 108 runs through Holzbach. The Landstrasse 168, part of the German Alleenstrasse , runs past the village outside of the town center. The connection to the regional traffic is given via the B 50 , which is about 3 km from the village . The Frankfurt-Hahn airport is located about 20 kilometers to the west of Wood Creek. The closest main train stations are in Koblenz , Bingen , Bad Kreuznach and Mainz .

history

The first written mention of Holzbach is from the year 1346. However, finds from the Neolithic and Roman times show a significantly earlier settlement.

With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . The Simultaneum was dissolved in 1921; In 1926 a new elementary school was built.

During the Second World War, about 100 men from Holzbach were drafted, of which 25 died during the war. The emergency landing of a German Bf 109 near the linden tree in 1944 caused quite a stir . At 7 a.m. on March 16, 1945, American armored troops reached Holzbach. The village offered no resistance, but houses on the main street were shot at by American troops. One refugee was killed and one woman was injured.

Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
