In 1815 the region and thus the community of Ellern was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

In 1798 Johannes Bückler , the Schinderhannes , stayed in Ellern and stole a horse .

During the end of National Socialism , from spring 1944 to spring 1945 at Ellern, initially under the direction of the Hitler Youth , from mid-1944 the Gestapo operated a parole camp for young people aged 13 to 17 who were employed in the timber industry under the worst conditions . economy

The wood industry is of great importance because of the nearby forest. The origin of the woodworking industry dates back to 1888, when Curt Müller von Berneck acquired land from the municipality and built a steam sawmill. After economic problems, the timber buyer Mathias Tenhaeff took over the saw gates on October 1, 1913 and operated it as the Mathias Tenhaeff company. Tenhaeff always pursued the idea of processing the tree trunks from the local forests into a finished product. In 1920 he therefore started producing boxes with the aim of training skilled workers before a chair factory was built in 1926. In 1936 the product portfolio was expanded to include tables and in 1969 to include benches for the catering trade. At the moment five, around 200 meter high wind turbines are being built for the Ellern wind farm in the Ellern district . The client and provisional operator is juwi from Wörrstadt .

traffic

The station Ellern located on the hunsrückquerbahn .

leisure

Ellern is part of the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park and offers a variety of hiking trails and cycling routes.

Ellern owes the ability to use wood in a variety of ways to the forest, which is why the Elljer Holzkerb was launched a few years ago . This gives the community the opportunity every year to systematically present wood and goods made from it. The Soonwaldfee , which is chosen on the occasion of the Holzkerb , personalizes and clarifies the proximity to the forest and its use through its name. Elljer Holzkerb is every year on the 4th weekend in August.
